The Languages & Cultures faculty in conjunction with the Center for the Study of Race and Democracy (CSRD) in the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts on the Downtown Phoenix Campus at Arizona State University invites applications for a Clinical Assistant
Professor of Humanities for the 2019‐2020 academic year. The successful candidate will provide instruction in the areas of English, Philosophy, History, Religious Studies, African America Studies, Latin American Studies, and/or Women’s Studies that assist students in
the Languages and Cultures programs at Arizona State University. Languages and Cultures course assignments are at the undergraduate level, and may occur in a variety of modalities (online, hybrid on‐ground,). The successful candidate will be actively engaged in curriculum development that advances the mission of the CSRD. The successful candidate will bridge the humanities curriculum within Languages and Cultures with the programming, pedagogical and scholarly initiatives and community partnerships of the Center for the Study of Race and Democracy. This position carries an expectation of robust affiliation with the CSRD and leadership on pedagogical, curricular, and research initiatives that advance the mission of the CSRD to facilitate innovative and transformative scholarship and engagement across disciplines and communities. The course load is determined by the faculty head and typically consists of four (4) courses a semester. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in service to the institution and profession as appropriate. This is a full‐time, benefits‐eligible, non‐tenure eligible position renewable on an academic year basis contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of resources, and the needs of the university. Required Qualifications:
▪ PhD in a humanities discipline
▪ Ability to teach in more than one humanities discipline
▪ Excellent written and spoken communication skills
▪ Demonstrated commitment to meet the needs of diverse student populations and/or reaching out to diverse communities
▪ Post‐secondary teaching excellence
▪ Experience in curriculum design and creating instructional, assessment materials for courses in field
▪ Experience integrating innovative digital technologies into curriculum to enhance student learning

Desired Qualifications:
▪ At least four years of post‐secondary teaching experience in the Humanities

The Lewis Honors College at the University of Kentucky is currently seeking a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer for a nine-month appointment, non-tenure track position. This position will be responsible for teaching six courses per academic year (typically three per semester) of Honors-level courses at the undergraduate level. One course (two sections per semester) will be the Foundations Seminar and one course per semester will be an Honors course in the Lecturer’s discipline.

The Foundations Seminar will be taken by all Lewis Honors College students and will be an intensive, interdisciplinary seminar that will emphasize the development of analytical reading, writing, and speaking skills through the lens of examining the relationship of the individual to society. Students will examine human thought and imagination from various perspectives, including philosophy, history, literature, science, religion, and art. The course will pay particular attention to how the main branches of academic inquiry-humanities, natural sciences, social sciences, and arts and creativity-address the relationship between individuals and the social worlds in which they find themselves.

The Lecturer position may include responsibilities for special programs on an as-needed basis. Typically, the distribution of effort will be 75% teaching, 18% program administration, 5% research/scholarship, and 2% professional development.
