Most of the university (including the A&H Dean’s Suite) will be closed December 23 – January 3, but the library is open as follows:

  • Now – December 18: OPEN 24 HOURS
  • December 19: 8am – midnight
  • December 20 (open 8am) – December 22 (close at 10pm)
  • December 23-December 28: CLOSED
  • December 29-December 30: 9am – 10pm
  • New Year’s Eve: 9am – 6pm
  • New Year’s Day: CLOSED
  • January 2-January 3: 9am – 10pm
  • January 4: Open at 8am

Summer Teaching Positions Available:

Teach Reading to Students of All Ages This Summer

  • Earn more than $6,000 during the summer. Teachers typically earn between $500 and $800 per week while teaching
  • Gain over 500 hours of teacher-training and teaching experience with a variety of age groups.
  • Help students of all ages develop their reading skills and ability to become imaginatively absorbed in books.

The Institute of Reading Development is seeking candidates for summer 2016 teaching positions. We seek applicants with an undergraduate degree or higher from any discipline. We provide a paid training program and comprehensive on-going support.

We hire people who:

  • Have strong reading skills and read for pleasure
  • Are responsible, hard working, and have good communication and organizational skills
  • Will be patient and supportive with students

The Institute teaches developmental reading programs in partnership with the continuing education departments of more than 100 colleges and universities across the United States. Our classes for students of all ages improve their reading skills and teach them to experience absorption in literature.

Please note:  All proposals should be submitted to your individual committee members for their approval at least one week before the submission deadline. (Earlier submission to the committee is strongly advised.)  Otherwise, you cannot expect faculty members to read and approve drafts in time to meet deadlines.

All proposals must be submitted as an email attachment sent to alice.salazar1@utdallas.edu. All signature pages and proposals must be submitted in hard copy.

 January 4
Proposals for Portfolios, Theses, and Dissertations due in the A & H Office (for GSC consideration on 13 January).
(This is the last date for proposals from students expecting to graduate in the spring semester.)

January 20
Applications for Graduation due (through Orion Student Center).

February 10
Proposals for Portfolios, Theses, and Dissertations due in the A & H Office  (for GSC consideration on 24 February).
(Students submitting proposals on this date will graduate in summer or later semesters.)

February 24
Last day for submission of final draft of dissertations to all members of the supervising committee.  Doctoral students who do not meet this deadline will not graduate this semester.

March 9
Last day for submission of final draft of portfolios or theses to all members of the supervising committee.  Master’s students who do not meet this deadline will not graduate this semester.

March 23
Last day to request oral defense of portfolios, theses, and dissertations. Requests for defenses of portfolios must be made to the A&H office. Requests for defenses of theses and dissertations must be made by 12:00 noon to the Office of the Graduate Dean, UTD.

March 30

April 6
Last day to hold oral defense of portfolios, theses, and dissertations.

Hooding Ceremony for graduating PhD students
